Application transparency, minimize to systray in Windows NT/2000/XP

While working in Windows, I always miss what I use in Linux. Previously I blogged about virtual desktops, window catalogue, desktop preview etc in Windows.

Just like that, I’d like to share another of my favorite application - PowerMenu.

PowerMenu in systray

This tiny application(consists of 3 files) allows you to have transparency, minimize to systray, prioritize and put the window on top of all others. You can download here, it is only 48.9 K!

I would suggest to copy the files from PowerMenu_1_5_1.zip into C:\Windows folder and create a shortcut in the Startup. This will help you to start PowerMenu with Windows login.

Here some more screenshots taken by me:

Migrating jusupov.com to Google Apps

After having countless issues with my hoster and making decision to move from there I thought it won’t be a bad idea to have my E-Mails hosted on Google. As I have previously blogged Google Apps is awesome!

I have completed the registration, have modified my MX settings and now waiting for it to propagate. Google says it should be within next 48 hours.

Standard Edition is more then enough for my blog.

A more detailed review about Google Apps in action will be posted later on.

Moving my domains, including this blog

Recently I have had enough of troubles with my hosting company - ResellerZoom. Until this day I had some minor problems for which I had closed my eyes, even for a hard disk crash which unfortunately effected in losing important files of mine. This is partially my fault since I wasn’t doing backups myself.

Last week, one of my friend who is also under my reseller account, complained that her blog is not online. I checked and found out that all of my domains were down. That lasted for at least half an hour, not quite sure for exact, after I have submitted a trouble ticket I find out that they were having DNS issues and the websites were back to normal again. If I haven’t noticed the downtime(thanks Dee!), I wouldn’t know they were having these issues.

I personally think that it is very not professional to hide these kind of problems from your customers. No may be they are not hiding, may be they are posting these kind of announcements on their forum. But hey, what the heck! How many of us will be visiting hosting company’s forums unless you really need to find out something.

Is it difficult to maintain a mailing list as any other hosting companies? Mailing lists for such kind of issues which directly affects your customers would be a very great resource. You may have several lists, but downtime and their perspective resolutions must be emailed to your customers for their references.

If you don’t take serious actions, it won’t take too long when you start losing your clientèle for that! Well, you are about to lose one now.

So I understood two things:

  1. You shouldn’t trust on your hosting company backup procedures and have your own.
  2. You will get what you are paying for. In my case I got a $5 service!

Lastly, I’m looking for reseller package, VPS or what the hell - unmanaged cheap dedicated server to move on. If you happened to know one - do let me know!

Update:
I just received an email with almost 3 hours delay, another my email has yet to arrive.
